Get To Know Steven Brown, Head of Movinglife's UK Operations

Steven Brown is currently the Head of UK Sales & Distribution at Movinglife. Steven had previously created a successful mobility business in the UK specialising in portable mobility scooters, and it was through this direct experience with the ATTO and Movinglife that made him want to join in a partnership specialising in the portable mobility scooter market.

What inspired you to join Movinglife?

I was inspired by Movinglife’s commitment to cutting-edge design and their ambitious growth plans. It’s rare to find companies in the mobility sector that invest genuinely in innovation instead of just mimicking existing products. Movinglife isn’t just about building mobility scooters; it’s about creating desire and transforming perceptions in a market that is often overlooked. That’s a mission I’m excited to be a part of.

What excites you about working here?

What excites me most about working at Movinglife is the opportunity to establish and grow the UK branch into a market leader. I’m particularly thrilled about the upcoming product launches and their potential to redefine standards in the industry. It’s an opportunity to make a real impact—not just within the company, but for users who seek mobility solutions that combine functionality with flair.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and what led you to the mobility solutions industry?

I started out by building a successful software company, which gave me a solid grounding in the B2B sector. After selling that business, I stumbled into the mobility industry almost by chance. A close family member with complex needs opened my eyes to the challenges and opportunities within the sector. When the chance to take over a small mobility business came up, it felt right. It was completely different from software, but I saw it as an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective to the industry. My background in tech and business development lets me approach the mobility solutions field with new ideas and strategies that can really make a difference.

How long have you been with Movinglife, and what were your first impressions of the company?

I’ve been with Movinglife for just over three months as the UK General Manager, but I’ve actually been connected with them for over seven years as a distributor. My first impression was that this is a company that really punches above its weight. Despite being managed by a relatively small team, Movinglife has a presence in over 62 countries. What really stood out to me was the company’s strong relationships with dealers and customers worldwide. There’s a genuine affection for the brand and the people behind it, which is pretty impressive and speaks volumes about their approach and impact.

What do you consider your most significant achievement with Movinglife so far?

Well, I’ve only been with Movinglife for three months, so pretty much every day has been an achievement! Jokes aside, my biggest win has been organising the move of our showroom and warehouse to a more central UK location without letting it mess up our sales and service. Considering we’re running on the adrenaline of a startup, keeping everything on track has been a bit like juggling on a rollercoaster.

How do you see the future of Movinglife in the UK, and what goals are you focusing on to drive success?

I see Movinglife becoming a household name in the UK, synonymous with class, attractive design, and unmatched service. We’re unique in that we design, manufacture, and sell our own patented products, which sets us apart in the mobility market. As we expand our product portfolio, our brand's presence and reputation will only grow stronger.

In terms of goals, obviously, we’re aiming to grow year on year. But beyond that, I'm focusing on building a robust distribution system that can handle anything we throw at it—be it online sales, in-home sales, showroom sales, or even garden centre pop-ups. We're also looking to forge strategic partnerships that drive demand for our innovative products. My vision is to create a well-oiled machine that not only meets but exceeds the market's expectations."

What do you think makes Movinglife products stand out compared to others in the mobility industry?

What really sets Movinglife apart is our focus on three key elements: Development, Design, and Desire. Unlike much of the mobility industry, which tends to copy and tweak existing products, we pour substantial resources into research and development to create not just functional, but beautifully designed products that people actually desire. They aren’t just mobility aids; they're travel-friendly pieces of equipment that enhance lifestyles.

Our customers often tell us how our products have transformed their lives by offering them freedom and convenience, allowing them to travel and move about easily. This feedback is a testament to our unique approach and reinforces our commitment to not just meet but exceed their expectations."

Can you share a memorable story of a customer who found new independence through Movinglife products?

Amanda is very inspirational, a customer who has shared her journey on her blog and through a testimonial on our website. Amanda’s life changed dramatically with the Atto Sport Folding Mobility Scooter. Before finding our product, her mobility was severely limited, which impacted her independence and quality of life. With the Atto Sport, she's been able to reclaim her freedom, allowing her to travel, explore, and participate in activities that were once impossible. Her story is a powerful example of how our design-focused approach truly enhances lives. You can read more about her experience on our website, which vividly captures how transformative our products can be.

What are some of the key challenges you face in the mobility market, and how are you overcoming them?

One of the key challenges we face in the mobility market is the prevalence of unethical selling practices. Far too often, companies prioritise profits over the genuine needs of their clients. At Movinglife, we adopt a different approach. We’re committed to ethical selling; we only recommend our products when they’re the right fit for the client. If our product isn’t the best solution for their needs, we honestly advise them accordingly. This approach is quite revolutionary in our industry, though it really shouldn’t be. It not only builds trust with our customers but also sets a standard we hope others will follow.

What do you love most about your role as UK General Manager?

I love the fact that I get to wear so many different hats. From driving growth and building a team to problem-solving and exploring new opportunities, it keeps things exciting. There's also a real sense of purpose in knowing that the products we offer are improving people's mobility and quality of life. Seeing how we’re making a difference is definitely one of the most rewarding parts of the job. Plus, being part of a company that’s pushing boundaries and changing perceptions in the mobility industry is something I’m really proud of."

How does Movinglife support its partners and dealers to ensure they can provide the best experience for customers?

Movinglife provides strong support for its partners and dealers to ensure they can offer the best experience to customers. One invaluable tool is our worldwide WhatsApp group, where dealers can ask for help if a customer faces a problem in another country. For example, a couple once flew halfway around the world, and the airline damaged their ATTO scooter. The local dealer reached out via WhatsApp, and within hours, someone was able to assist the customer. It’s a great example of how we support each other globally.

In addition, we also provide access to repair manuals and tutorial videos on a shared drive, making it easy for dealers to offer high-quality aftercare. These resources help ensure that our dealers are always equipped to assist customers, no matter the situation.

What are some new developments or products that customers can look forward to from Movinglife?

I can’t give away too much just yet, but what I can say is that there’s a game changer on the horizon. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes on something exciting that will push the boundaries even further in the mobility world. Stay tuned—it's going to be worth the wait!

What’s your favorite food and why?

My all-time favourite dish is bobotie, a Cape-Malay classic, and luckily, my wife cooks a mean one! It’s the perfect mix of sweet and savoury, and it’s pure comfort food for me. But since you won’t find bobotie on many menus outside of Cape Town, my usual go-to is either a good burger or a curry. They’re both easy to find and a solid choice when I’m out and about.

Do you have a favorite sports team you cheer for?

The Springboks

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

That’s a tough one because everywhere I go, I seem to think I’d love to live there! I’m drawn to cities, but I also love being near mountains and the sea. My answer changes depending on the year, but for 2024, it would have to be Croatia's Dalmatia coast. There’s just something about the stunning coastline that really appeals to me.

Coldplay or Taylor Swift?

Really?
